WSOP Final Table Set, Play Resumes Thursday

The most prestigious final table in poker is set. After 10 days of action the 7,221 person field has been whittled down to just 9 players - each with their sights set on the $8.15 million first place payout and coveted Main Event bracelet. There’s no November 9 this year - play resumes Thursday at 9:00PM ET with coverage on ESPN2.

The 2017 tournament may be remembered most for the repeat success of a handful of proven Main Event contenders. There will be two players making their second Main Event final table appearance: Antoine Saout and Ben Lamb.

France’s Antoine Saout won his way into the 2009 WSOP Main Event from a $50 online satellite and parlayed it into a 3rd place finish and $3.47 million score. Since then he’s been a regular in major tournaments around the world and will be looking to better his ’09 finish by a couple of spots. He enters the 2017 final table in 7th place with 21.75 million chips.

Like Saout, Ben Lamb is no stranger to deep runs in the Main. He finished in 156th place in the 2007 Main Event, came up just shy of the final table with a 14th place run in 2009, and improved yet again with a 3rd place finish in 2011 worth $4.02 million. Lamb too will enter the final table with work to do, currently sitting in 9th with 18.05 million chips - though due to the top heavy nature of the leaderboard he’s just one double up from a top 3 stack.

Two Main Event final table’s in the common era is a remarkable accomplishment, though New Jersey’s Michael Ruane nearly did them one better with his bid to go back-to-back coming up just short. After finishing fourth for $2.57 million in the 2016 Main Event, Ruane put forth a valiant effort with his 2017 run ultimately ending in 10th place.

When play resumes the two favorites to take the bracelet will be the names at the top of the chip count: Scott Blumstein (97.25 million) and colorful Englishman John Hesp (85.7 million). Each with more than twice the third place stack, they’ll  both have ammo to mount a serious run at the title.

Current chip counts are as follows:

Scott Blumstein, USA, 97,250,00

John Hesp, UK, 85,700,000

Benjamin Pollak, France, 35,175,000

Bryan Piccioli, USA, 33,800,000

Dan Ott, USA, 26,475,000

Antoine Saout, France, 21,750,000

Jack Sinclaire, UK, 20,200,000

Ben Lamb, USA, 18,050,000

With a million already locked up, here’s what they’re playing for:

1st - $8,150,000

2nd - $4,700,000

3rd - $3,500,000

4th - $2,600,000

6th - $1,675,000

7th - $1,425,000

Play resumes on Thursday, July 20th at 9:00PM ET with coverage on ESPN2.
