Super Bowl Wagering Hits $16B

We all know that several records will be broken this Sunday at the Super Bowl, but one record not getting as much media attention is the record amount of money being wagered this year on the big game.

According to several news outlets, over 50 million adults in the USA plan on wagering over $16 billion dollars on Super Bowl LVII featuring Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs and Jalen Hurts’ Philadelphia Eagles, with almost half of that amount going to prop bets, per the New York Times.

This year’s game is the first Super Bowl being played in a state, Arizona, with legalized sports betting.  Fans will actually be able to place bets from inside State Farm Stadium during the game via their mobile phones.  In fact, with the addition this year of Kansas, Massachusetts and Ohio, 33 states plus the District of Columbia now allow mobile sports wagering.  That equates to more than half of the adults in America living in markets where sports betting has been legalized.

You can watch Super Bowl LVII this Sunday, February 12th at 6:30 PM ET on Fox.
