WSOP November 9 Set, Josephy Leads

The final table for the World Series of Poker Main Event is set and leading the way is online legend Cliff “JohnnyBax” Josephy. When play resumes on October 30th he’ll be seeking his third career WSOP bracelet and the enormous $8 million first place payout. However, 8 extremely talented players still stand in his way.

Josephy, 50, made a name for himself by dominating online tournaments under the name “JohnnyBax”. His stellar reputation grew even further when he entered his first live Stud tournament at the 2005 World Series of Poker and outlasted the field to claim his first gold bracelet. He will control 74.6 million chips when play resumes and will be looking to continue his dominant run. Josephy will undoubtedly garner support from many in his pursuit of the title.

The play down to this year’s final table was fast and furious. One of the largest pots of the night was played between Qui Nguyen and Tom Marchese. Nguyen raised to 1.4 million out of the small blind and was called by Marchese in the big blind. The flop brought the 9d - 8d - 3c, prompting a check from both players. The 5c hit on the turn, after which Nguyen lead for 1 million. Marchese raised to 4 million, and Nguyen called. The board completed with the 4c on the river and Nguyen checked. Marchese moved all in for his last 7.075 million and was instantly called by Nguyen, who held the Ac-Kc - the nut flush. Marchese's Jc-10c wasn't good enough, and he was eliminated in 14th place.

It was Nguyen who delivered another knockout blow just a few hands later, this time at the expense of Mike Shin. Vojtech Ruzicka raised to 800K and Mike shin called from the small blind. Qui Nguyen then pushed the action to 2.7 million with a 3-bet out of the big blind. Ruzicka called, however, Shin moved all-in for his remaining 14.1 million. After tanking for several minutes Nguyen eventually called, turning over Qd-Qh. Shin revealed his Ac-Kh - starting a race for roughly 30 million chips. The board ran out in Nguyen’s favor however, 10h - 4s - 2c - 8d - Qs, eliminating Shin in 12th and catapulting Nguyen to the top of the leaderboard.

Action on the bubble progressed relatively quickly as a shortstacked John Cynn was eliminated in 11th, shoving with Qh-10c which failed to improve against the Ac-Kh of Gordon Vayo. Ten handed play lasted just 18 hands as Josh Weiss had dwindled to a stack of not even two big blinds. All-in for his last 850K, he was called by Vayo and Michael Ruane. Weiss was unable to find a winner, as Ruane’s Jd-5h made two pair.

The 9 remaining players that will return on October 30th to decide the Main Event Champion are:

Cliff Josephy - 74,600,000

Qui Nguyen - 67,925,000
