New York Gaming Revenue Down Slightly In June

The New York State Gaming Commission reported casino revenue of $55.1 million in June 2025, a 2.2% decrease from $56.4 million in June 2024.

Unlike other US states, New York does not break down its data by operator, instead providing a summary of game types. Slot machines and electronic table games (ETGs) generated the greatest income, totaling $41.8 million. That was a 1.7% increase over June 2024, though the June 2025 figure was still down from the previous month.

In terms of table games, New York casinos lost the greatest revenue year after year. Casinos collected $11.8 million in June 2025, a significant decrease from the $14.2 million received the previous June. Poker table income dropped marginally, from $880,000 to more over $860,000.

However, retail sports betting profits in New York more than compensated for this. In June 2025, New York online sports betting had a handle of $1.6 billion, up from $1.4 billion the previous year. Retail sports betting followed suit, with retail GGR increasing by about $184%.

Every land-based casino in New York is located upstate, but this will soon change. Three licenses are available for downstate casinos, and after months of contemplation, eight operators submitted bids by the June 27 deadline.

Several bidders pulled out of the process before the deadline. Wynn Resorts stated in May that it was dropping its ambitions to build a casino in the state, citing rezoning issues as insurmountable. Previously, plans from Hudson's Bay Co. and Las Vegas Sands were dropped.

The eight surviving bids include some of the most well-known names in the US casino industry. Caesars Entertainment plans to build a Caesars Palace casino in Times Square, supported by Jay-Z and other significant investors. Meanwhile, Bally's has proposed a $4 billion integrated casino resort in the Bronx.

MGM Resorts International plans to transform its Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway into a full casino, with a $4 billion investment to develop a 5,000-person venue.

Other proposed developments include Resorts World New York City at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens, The Coney at Coney Island in Brooklyn, Metropolitan Park at Willets Point in Queens, The Avenir at 11th Avenue and 41st Street in Manhattan, and Freedom Plaza in Manhattan.
